1. Is The Joshua Tree the biggest U2 album ever?

As of this version of U2FAQS.com, it is.

In the U.S., The Joshua Tree was No. 1 for nine weeks. In the U.K. it became the fastest selling album in history and went Platinum in only 28 hours! It stayed on the charts for 129 weeks. It reentered the U.K. charts twice more, reaching No. 19 in 1992 and No. 27 in 1993. In September, 2001, fresh off U2's two concerts at Slane Castle, The Joshua Tree re-entered the Irish album charts and reached the Top 5. Overall, it topped the charts in 22 different countries -- a standard later broken by both Pop and All That You Can't Leave Behind. But those two albums have yet to catch The Joshua Tree for overall worldwide sales. [M2]

2. How many other bands have been on the cover of TIME magazine?

U2 appeared on the cover of the April 29, 1987, issue with a headline of "Rock's Hottest Ticket." But it's not quite as rare as originally thought for a band to make the cover of TIME. The Beatles and The Who were also honored like that. The Canadian group The Band was on TIME's cover on the issue dated January 12, 1970. And many solo performers have been on the cover, including David Byrne, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder ... and Bono, who made the cover by himself on TIME's March 4, 2002, issue. [M2, JT, JP, PA]

3. Where did U2 shoot all the photos for The Joshua Tree album?

See the Geography FAQ for the answer.

4. Is it true that both the actual "Joshua Tree" and the tree from "One Tree Hill" are dead?

See the Geography FAQ for the answer.

5. Who are The Dalton Brothers?

The Dalton Brothers are U2 ... dressed as a country band, during the Joshua Tree tour! They used to play songs such as "Lucille" and "Lost Highway" before the "real" performance ... and the audience usually yelled things like "get out of there!" :) The Dalton Brothers performed three times during the third leg of The Joshua Tree tour in North America: November 1, November 18 and December 12, 1987. 6. Was The Joshua Tree originally a double album?

When Edge was asked about this in Hot Press magazine, he never REALLY confirmed the idea. This is his response:

"For instance, we disagreed vehemently about what songs should go on the album. If Bono had his way, The Joshua Tree would have been more American and bluesy, and I was trying to pull it back." That compromise led to the later flood of new B-side tracks. Bono argued that "the album is almost incomplete. 'With or Without You' doesn't really make sense without 'Walk to the Water' or 'Luminous Times'. And 'Trip Through Your Wires' doesn't make that much sense without 'Sweetest Thing.'" (Hot Press, Dec. 1987)

That quote is what started the idea / rumor that it was supposed to be a double album, but Edge never really addresses the issue one way or another. [M2]

7. What's the big deal with the "Dream It All Up Again" speech?
